A few newsletters ago, we brought you the Tesla-Trillion dollar juice - you know how we do!

…and no, this is not another story about Tesla 😄😰

Anyway, today we’re talking about a 3rd time Trillion Dollar club member: Apple.

Apple initially became the world’s most valuable company as a result of a steady stream of successful products such as the Macbook, iPhone, iPods, Airpods, which have always enthralled consumers. I mean think about them airpods, I could have sworn no one would care so much about them but talk about the genius of Apple’s marketing dawg! #Madness

Apple is set to take its trillion-dollar valuation to new levels in 2022. Do not be caught on a bicycle! They’re on their way to a 3 trillion dollar market cap, just after touching 2 trillion in 2020! To put this in context, it would make Apple worth as much as the German economy. Hehe, wanna juxtapose against Nigeria’s economy or should I shut it? 🤭🥴

As you can be rest assured, they’ll continue to dazzle us with more products whether we like, ask for it or not! Rumour has it that they’re eyeing augmented & virtual reality as well as autonomous vehicles.

Apple is already announcing what they’ll make in 2022, while Tomi dey here dey find funds for Detty December turn up. #GodWhen

Apple shares reached an all-time high of about $174 this week and needs to rise only about 4.4% (which would raise the share price to $182.85) to achieve the 3 trillion dollar goal. This would firmly secure the tech giant’s position as the most valuable company in the world - yet again!

I bet Steve must be proud - wherever he is. Kudos!

…Right Into The Metaverse🌚

Facebook (Meta, or call it whatever) plans to open a virtual world app to everyone in the U.S & Canada.

Like we need another social media platform.

In any case, Facebook has announced that something called “Horizon Worlds” is coming to a phone near you LOL. Horizon Worlds is the awaited virtual reality world of avatars open to persons above 18. So HW has already been in beta since last year… to some Oculus VR users, who accepted the invitations to join. Now, invitations are a thing of the past.

So pretty much, instead of using yourself as the object of fancy (as in the current social media world), you create your legless avatar in Facebook’s Horizon Worlds, make friends and y’all can wander away.

Italy's antitrust watchdog has fined Amazon 1.13 billion euros ($1.28 billion) for allegedly abusing its market dominance. This is one of the biggest penalties imposed on a U.S. tech giant in Europe.

Amazon says it "strongly disagreed" and would appeal the decision. Of course, they will 👀

Italy's watchdog said Amazon leveraged its dominant position in the market for intermediation services on marketplaces to favour the adoption of its own logistics service - Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) - by sellers active on Amazon.

Yea, I know that’s a mouthful.

Simple story: Amazon has positioned itself such that active sellers have limited options but to use their FBA service by including a bunch of ‘user only’ benefits in their logistics service, such as the Prime label, that help increase visibility and boost sales on “amazon.it” (Italy’s native Amazon platform)

Long story short: Amazon ain’t say nothing but "the proposed fine and remedies are unjustified and disproportionate."

Volkswagen oVeR Tesla?

I’m sure even after reading the title you’re like ‘ There is no way VW is greater than Tesla’.

I honestly haven’t thought much about Volkswagen since the 2015 emission scandal. I always forget that they own luxury brands like Audi, Porsche and the most luxurious of them all, Bentley.

It would seem unlikely that Volkswagen would beat the Big Bad Wolf of EVs (that is, Tesla) at their own game but surprisingly, they are doing just that in Europe, with 70% of EV sales.

Volkswagen boasts a 26% market share of the European electric vehicle market.

There are two major reasons why Volkswagen is enjoying such significant success in Europe: the market’s familiarity with the brand and cost-efficiency. Not alarming that Volkswagen EVs are thousands of dollars cheaper than Teslas.

I’m with the customers on this one, who no like awoof?

A major advantage that Volkswagen has is that it carries the Audi, Porsche and Bentley brands, which allows Volkswagen to appeal to a variety of buyers in the market. Although, Tesla’s high prices in Europe can be partially blamed on importation and customs fees because they presently don’t have a factory in Europe, and all cars have to be imported from the United States.

But we all know that there’s no challenge Elon Musk doesn’t feel up to!

As expected, Tesla’s comeback was to announce plans to open a factory in Berlin before the year ends (lemao. Elon loves a good fight, huh?) and that is likely to have an effect on the prices of Tesla vehicles sold in Europe in the future…

So this begs the question: can Volkwagen continue on in their European domination or is Tesla going to do what Tesla does best and take over Europe?
