Netflix & Chill, Anyone?🌝🥶
Netflix is chilling subscriber numbers😫, Snap(pers) are riding off into the sunset😉, Shopify is positioning for an acquisition🤔 & Elon has a boring company🥱.
Hello Beautiful People,
Mehnnn, it feels as though we just started 2022! Where in the world does this time fly to?? And booom, we are almost done with the fourth month of the year.
How’s 2022 going for you? I hope it’s going really well! Whatever goals you have set, May the Force be With You.
Unto today’s stock market “amebo” (gist), we move.
Shall we?!
NETFLIX: ARE THESE THE DARK DAYS?
200,000 users out! 2,000,000 more to go!!
I wish the executives at Netflix could just “Netflix and chill” but these are trying times for the company. It's at a make or break point, a battle for survival.
Let me ask you (in confidence): how many people are you sharing your Netflix password with? OR How many people’s Netflix passwords do you have? 🌝🌚 Don’t lie!!
😫😫 You’re the people who’s brought Netflix to its knees!! 🤭 [What if I go and report you now? Okay, I'm kidding!] On a more serious note, shares were down 30% on Wednesday as the company declared a 0.1% loss (200,000) in its consumer base in the first quarter of 2022.
Well, that seems to be the least of the company’s problems. Netflix anticipates a much larger drop in its second quarter — of around two million net subscribers. This is the real reason for the panic.
But, Netflix has a plan to capture that lost revenue. It would begin with sending alerts to account holders whose passwords are being used by other households. 🥶🥶 [Who’s sweating already?]
“If you’ve got a sister, let’s say, that’s living in a different city, you want to share Netflix with her, that’s great,” said Chief Operating Officer Greg Peters during the company’s earnings conference call. “We’re not trying to shut down that sharing, but we’re going to ask you to pay a bit more to be able to share with her and so that she gets the benefit and the value of the service, but we also get the revenue associated with that viewing.”
I guess this solves the problem at hand, it is a win-win for everyone
OR NOT
Cos maybe we’d all just migrate elsewhere!
Let’s wait & see how consumers react. '
A GOOD WEEK FOR SNAP INC.
Snap Inc., the company behind one of the largest social media apps - Snapchat, reported growth that beat analysts forecasts earlier this week.
Finally some good news from the stock market
The app is mostly popular among young people with their largest user demographic being between 18 and 24. Snapchat was able to draw 332 million daily active users which is 18% more than what they had at the same time last year and is also higher than the 330.5 million analyst forecasted. Of course, Snapchat shares rose by as much as 12% in after-hours trading following the announcement.
Snap Inc. investors now smiling all the way to the bank. 🤠🤠
Snap Inc. appears to be performing better than one its greatest rivals, Meta, whose growth has been somewhat stagnated according to analysts. This rivalry goes wayyyy back! Whew!
By now you should know that the stock market can’t let you go with ONLY good news.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for Snapchat. Snap’s estimated sales fell short of analysts’ forecast. The company’s sales were heavily impacted by the ongoing Ukrainian war. Although first-quarter sales rose by 38% to $1.06 billion, it was just short of analysts’ expectations of $1.07 billion. Potato - Potahto…
However, for the second-quarter the company projected revenue growth of 20% and 25% and analysts are predicting a 28% sales growth.
Fingers crossed🤞🏾
SHOPIFY CONSIDERING ACQUIRING A STARTUP
Shopify, the Canadian e-commerce giant, is in talks about acquiring a tech startup called Deliverr.
Looks like Deliverr is about to make some shmoneyyy
Deliverr is a US based fulfillment company that helps merchants on Shopify, EBay Inc. and other e-commerce networks get products to customers in 48 hours or less. The company has been in operation since 2017 and uses its analysts' data to forecast where people might be interested in buying certain products. That information is used to strategically position items in their warehousing network to achieve prompt and efficient delivery.
Sounds pretty neat!
A fulfillment service that actually delivers on time and in such a short time (that’s not Amazon)? I can totally see why Shopify is interested.
A move by Shopify to acquire Deliverr would help the e-commerce giant expand into fulfillment and shipping services. If the deal goes through successfully, it would be Shopify’s largest deal in its 16 year history. The deal could value San Francisco-based Deliverr at more than $2 billion. However, no final decisions as regards the possible acquisition have been reached.
However, representatives for both Shopify and Deliverr declined to comment on the topic.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Shopify is able to pull it off.
ELON MUSK’S BORING COMPANY
I don’t think it's news again that anything Elon touches turns into Gold, that guy knows how to make magic out of every idea.
The Boring Company, which Musk created to build a network of underground tunnels to transport people and cargo around cities has announced it raised $675 million to push further toward its goal.
Sequoia, a prominent Silicon Valley firm that invested in Musk before, co-led the investment with Vy Capital. The deal values the Boring Company at nearly $5.7 billion. The Boring Company says its ultimate aim is to eliminate “soul-destroying traffic” with vast networks of tunnels.
Ermm but what’s the difference between this and underground trains?
Lowkey, can we agree that some of us in Africa need this technology more because traffic in cities like Lagos is not for the faint at heart.
The Boring Company says it recently won approval for a 29-mile tunnel network connecting 51 stations under Las Vegas. The company is calling it the “largest subsurface transportation project,” and says it will eventually be capable of transporting 57,000 passengers per hour.
NUTS!
